Tests

When you see a Doctor or Nurse, they may ask you to have some tests done so that they can review the results next time they see you.
We are able to do the following tests at the Practice:

  • 24 hour blood pressure monitoring
  • Spirometry (lung function test)
  • ECG
  • Blood test
  • Urine dipstick
  • Swabs
  • Cervical screening (smear)

All other tests are done at the Hospital, such as X-Rays or CT scans.

If you are referred for a CT scan or MRI, the hospital will write to you directly with your appointment.

If you are referred for an X-Ray, you will need to call the radiology booking line on 01244 363043 to book in. The booking line is open 9am-12pm 2p-4.30pm Monday-Friday.

Please note that you can only book in to have a test done if it has been requested by a Doctor, Nurse or Hospital Consultant.
If the Doctor or Nurse has requested that you drop off a sample (such as urine or poo) please make sure to drop it off at the Practice before 2pm so it can be sent to the lab the same day for testing.

Blood Tests - Update 31 August 2021

A supplier to the NHS has advised us of a global shortage of some equipment used for taking blood tests.

Anyone who needs a test for urgent health problems, will still get one but where your clinician recommends that it’s safe to do so, then you may be asked to come back for a test at a later date, or your appointment may be rescheduled.

Given the nature of the shortage, we cannot give an exact date for when the test will be rescheduled, but please be assured that if your condition or symptoms require it, then you will get a test, and we will be re-booking your test when supplies become more easily available.

If your condition or symptoms change or get worse, please contact the NHS as you would normally.
